Churchill Hui is a small multi disciplinary company that specialises in residential schemes for Housing Associations, Local Authorities and occasional private clients in the South East of England and Shropshire. I worked on projects ranging from single dwellings to large housing developments. As part of a team of four, I worked on schemes from feasibility studies up-to and including planning. Within this team I had the opportunity to design a number of varying sized schemes, produce Design & Access statements and competition boards, attend client meetings where I took an active role presenting work produced. I also got chance to hold a public consultation for one of the projects I worked on. This oportunity gave me an understanding of the processes of procuring work, client liaising and how a multi disciplinary company is structured.

Following a referal from the Cardiff office I spent a summer working in the London office. Whist there I worked on projects at various stages of development and for different sectors. This included initial layouts for retail parks and designer outlets in Europe and Malaysia, competition entrys for housing developments and commercial properties in the UK and abroad, and specifications for a velodrome in Turkmenistan designed for the Asian games. As part of my role I was often responsible for research into the feasibility of projects and compiling the information into presentations and booklets.

Holder Mathias Architects gave me an initial understanding of the professional nature of an architect practice before I began my studies. This temporary contract developed my skills in photoshop, autocad and design, and furthered my academic capabilities. I attended site visits for planned propsals to develope a comerical property, engaging with clients and planning officials. I also worked on a comericial property surveying built works in relation to their original plans. This opportunity gave me fundemental experience in working within a professional team.
